Home Educators’ Day at The Deep, Hull: Holderness Heroes 2026

If your home ed group has a soft spot for sharks, seahorses and everything that lives beneath the waves, you’ll want to pop this one straight in the diary. The Deep in Hull is running its annual Home Educators’ Day on Wednesday 16th September 2026, and this year’s theme is “Holderness Heroes” – a hands-on look at the wildlife living right on our own doorstep, along the Holderness coast near Spurn Point. It’s one of those rare event days built specifically with home educating families in mind, rather than squeezed in around a school trip timetable, so it tends to be a calmer, friendlier day out than term-time visits can be. What’s the Holderness Heroes theme all about? The Deep’s Crew will be taking learners on a virtual exploration of the chilly waters off Spurn Point, looking at coastal habitats, the sea creatures that call them home, and the challenges nature faces along that stretch of coastline. It’s a lovely way to connect a trip to an aquarium with real, local geography and conservation – useful if you’re covering coastal habitats, British wildlife or environmental science as part of your home ed topics this term. Who is the day suitable for? The event is aimed at children who are educated at home and is suitable for a wide age range: ages 3 to 16. Workshops run for 50 minutes and there are several to choose from across the day, so it’s worth having a look at the full list before you book so you can pick sessions that suit your children’s ages and interests. Prices and what’s included Tickets are £11.50 per child, which includes entry and one workshop session. Each child booking comes with one free adult place, so you won’t need to buy a separate ticket for yourself. If you’re bringing extra grown-ups along – grandparents, co-op helpers, another parent – they’ll need to book a standard admission ticket separately. Under 3s and essential carers go free, but they do still need to be added to your booking details, so don’t leave them off the form even though there’s nothing to pay. A few practical things worth knowing before you book How to book Tickets are booked directly through The Deep’s ticketing system. Given how popular home educator days tend to be, and how limited workshop spaces are, it’s worth booking sooner rather than later if this one’s caught your family’s interest.
